# A little backstory on how we (randomly) got here

How a random trip, a few awkward conversations, and way too much product research somehow turned into this website.

Hey! I'm Amber.

Together with my boyfriend Jay, we decided to launch [WeTriedThis](https://wetriedthis.com/) .

We both work full-time jobs, so this project mostly exists in the evenings, on weekends, and during those late-night rabbit holes where one open tab somehow turns into fifteen.

We met while traveling in Portugal a few years ago (still one of my favorite trips I've ever done).

One of the first things I noticed about him was how weirdly thorough he was before buying literally anything. Doesn't matter if it's headphones, luggage, or something for the bedroom, he researches everything like he's preparing a legal case. Reddit threads, review sections, spreadsheets, refund policies… I used to laugh at him for spending three evenings researching something that cost less than dinner.

I come from a psychology background myself, so I've always been more interested in the human side of things. Relationships, communication, attraction, awkwardness, why people struggle to talk openly even in long-term relationships… these things always fascinated me.

Over time, we naturally started trying things together out of curiosity. Sometimes we'd come across a product everybody online seemed obsessed with. Other times it was just one of us randomly saying "should we try this?" and actually following through on it instead of forgetting about it the next morning.

One thing we originally bought just for a laugh is somehow still sitting in our nightstand years later.

But I honestly think part of this project started after one of my friends' bachelorette parties.

As a joke, I bought her a toy and threw in some comment like "you'll probably thank me later." Everybody laughed, she turned completely red, and that should've been the end of it. Except a few weeks later she messaged me asking where I'd actually found it because apparently it ended up being one of the better gifts she got.

After that, the topic weirdly stopped feeling taboo around our friends.

Someone would bring something up half-jokingly, somebody else would admit they'd actually been curious about it too, and suddenly we were all having conversations nobody would've openly had a year earlier.

And because Jay researches everything like a psychopath before we buy anything, we usually had an answer.

A lot of those conversations stopped being about the [sex toys](https://wetriedthis.com/pleasure-toys) themselves pretty quickly anyway. Half the time it was more like "okay but did it actually feel sexy or just embarrassing?" or "was it genuinely good or just something people hype up online for no reason?"

After a while, we realized we were already spending a ridiculous amount of time talking about this stuff anyway. I guess that's probably where WeTriedThis came from. We wanted a place to talk about relationships, novelty, intimacy, awkward conversations, useful finds, disappointing ones, and all the messy parts people usually skip over.

Probably with a bit of oversharing occasionally too.

Anyway, we're really glad you found this little corner of the internet.

Hope you find something useful, or at least something that makes you feel slightly less weird about the things you Google at midnight.
